What will Jesus find?

I was reading through Luke today when I hit 18:8 and it caused me to pause and do a little self evaluation. The last part of that verse Jesus says, "But when the Son of Man returns, how many will he find on earth who have faith?" What does it mean to be one who has faith in God? I feel Jesus goes on to explain to us what it means to be found with a real faith in Him.

Faith in God means we are persistent in prayer. Read verses 1-8 of Luke 18 about the parable Jesus uses of the persistent widow. A lot of Christians may say they pray, but I would say there is a huge minority of those who do it on a persistent and consistent basis. Faith has to play itself out in our life in a real way. If we have a real faith in God we will persistently knock on the doors of Heaven waiting for God to answer our prayers.

Faith in God is coming to the realization that I am merely a sinner that can only find salvation through the grace and mercy that Jesus provides me. Jesus uses another parable in Luke 18:9-14 to emphasize this fact. Am I trying to be self-righteous through my acts towards God? Or, do I recognize I need to live in a state of humbleness and repentance before God?

Faith in God is being in love with God more than anything else this world could offer. Jesus uses the rich young ruler as an example in Vs. 18-25. Do I recognize that I can only serve one Master? Or, am I allowing more than Jesus to try to rule my life? Too often money, careers, material possessions, even ministry can become our Master instead of Jesus.

Jesus, may I be found prepared and ready when you return. May I persistently pursue you through your word and prayer. Help me to trust in you and not my own good works. I am only what I am because You are who You are. Remove anything in my life I trust more than you or love more than you. I want to love you above anything else this world has to offer. Your humble servant, Jason.
